BlackOps Anti-Phishing: Spot the Clones

Why Clones Exist

Every time a market suffers a DDoS attack or loses a mirror, opportunists register lookalike domains. These fakes appear within two to six hours of the initial disruption. The goal is simple: catch panicked users who type whatever link they find first while searching for a stable connection.

The Three Tells

  • JavaScript required. The genuine BlackOps interface functions with JavaScript completely disabled. If you see a prompt asking you to enable scripts or a spinning loader that never finishes, you are viewing a clone built on a heavy framework.
  • Wrong address length. Real v3 addresses contain 56 characters before the .onion extension. Counterfeit sites often use older v2 style identifiers with only 16 characters or pad the string with extra letters to mimic official formatting.
  • Urgency language. Watch for countdown timers or phrases like "only hours left." The real market operates without artificial pressure. It is always available. If you feel rushed into buying, someone is manipulating your decision process.

What to Do

Close the suspicious tab immediately but do not clear your cookies yet. The clone may have planted a tracking pixel that needs to be isolated. Return to a trusted source like this page or the latest PGP announcement on Dread to copy the address fresh. Paste it into a new Tor circuit by clicking the reload button twice to generate a new path.
